Chassis 4843

Bugatti Type 35C, chassis number 4843, was purchased in 1927 by the Italian racing driver Renato Balestrero for 75,000 Swiss francs. Balestrero raced this supercharged Grand Prix car throughout the 1927 and 1928 seasons, competing in events including the Tripoli Grand Prix. The chassis represents a vivid fragment of Italian motorsport at its most heroic: the Type 35C, equipped with a Rootes-type supercharged straight-eight producing approximately 128 horsepower, was among the most competitive Grand Prix machines of its era, and in Balestrero's hands it became a vehicle of genuine ambition.
