004 Type 73C

This was a frame #4 built by the factory but not completed and kept in storage until it was sold to the Dutch Bugatti trader Bart Loyens together with other 73 parts such as frame #5. He in turn sold it to Ray Jones, and then it went to Rudolph Derx who owned two type 73 frames Rudolph Derx had installed the type 49 engine (108 ex 49247) on this car!. Rudi reportedly exported it to John Barton in 1985, then living in Wallington Surrey, UK?. The 49 engine was taken out sold to Nick Lawson Baker in London who put it in a Gino Hoskins frame making a replica now depicted as 49 R BC 060, owned by M. Feidt. The 73 had frame number 4 and John Barton was said to have obtained all parts from Uwe Hucke (Engine #4, Front axle #4, 73 gearbox # 4, Rear axle # 1.) which he (re)united with this car. At first the car had a GP monoposto body with a standard Bugatti radiator but later he built the present body and gave it the number (in the Barton Numbering System) *73 C 004’. Although John published a picture of him in the car in Bugantics in the early 1990’s, it took him 15 years the car* and in 2000 it still reportedly had not driven. Shown at the International Bugatti Meeting in Prescott in 2004. It was also at Le Vigeant on June 4, 2006. John moved to the south of France and now is called Jean.
