History
According to the documented history of sister car 57386, chassis 57686 carried Atalante coachwork but was listed as 57618 following an identity and chassis-plate switch made at the Molsheim factory after September 1939. The accident-damaged Atalante later belonged to Illinois collector John Shakespeare and was among the roughly thirty Bugattis Fritz Schlumpf acquired from him in early 1964. Its Atalante body was removed and spent decades in storage in the Schlumpf reserve collection at Malmerspach, later held by the Musee National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse. In the 1990s German collector Uwe Hucke acquired the body together with the bare chassis 57386 and mounted the 57686 Atalante coachwork onto that chassis, where…
