57132 Type 57

This car was produced in April 1934 with engine 161. The rolling chassis stayed at the factory until the Bugatti agent Maître in Nantes ordered an Usine Cabriolet on Feb 9, 1935 and it was delivered on March 13, 1935 (for Frs 67.040.-. Nothing further is known until it was mentioned in 2000: the chassis was imported from France by Roger Smith ('99) and sold to Rod Jolley in 1999. He had obtained engine 210 ex 57259 from Eric Koon. He also got a front axle and the gearbox and sold the rolling chassis. After a while he went to the Dept. Agenais (Haute Provence) where he may have had a home. Spinnett was the catalogue 'Frame Finder' and his car has been mentioned in front of the circus. He exchanged it for 57304 at the factory registered as 57304. It sold a copy of Gangloff design #027 which had been drawn by Lucien Schlatter on 19 June 1939. This was the car that second body made by Rod Jolly along this design. The mechanical restoration was performed by Twin Cam ba·ba in Belgium, the company of Bernard Marrey. It was shown at the Rétromobile 2006, the Technical and then the Concours d'Elegance in 't Loo in September 2006. He sold it to a Belgian citizen who prefers to remain anonymous once done. The other car was built on an unused ex Alain Spite 101 frame ordered by Roger Smith from Ron Atkins. He in turn sold it, kept it until his death in 1999. His widow kept it in until she died in 1997 after which the Atkins estate requested the car back from the heirs. He brought it for sale at the Coys auction in London in Nov 26, 1999 (Lot C14). It was sold and it was brought to the Artcurial sale in Paris (lotsr 247) to a new Austrian owner.
