Built solely for racing purposes, such as hill climb events, this model belongs to the series officially designated as the Type 47. Within this series, the Type 47 is the 3-liter version, while the Type 45 is the more powerful 4-liter version. Only two cars from this series were originally built at the Bugatti factory: one Type 47 and one Type 45, both now preserved in the Schlumpf Collection in France. The other Type 45 was later assembled from original spare parts, built on a Type 45 chassis fitted with a Type 47 engine, and is part of The Perridon Collection.
